European regulators have flagged a very rare case of non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) in patients using semaglutide treatments such as Ozempic and Wegovy. This unexpected adverse effect has regulators scratching their heads—indeed, when a prescription drug surprises with side effects, you almost have to tip your hat to its audacity.
Eye condition NAION occurs when a loss of blood flow damages the optic nerve
Called non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), the condition may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people taking semaglutide.
