Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree introduced the Strong Borders Act, which seeks to combat organize crime, disrupt flows of fentanyl and tighten up the immigration system. He says key changes would include new powers for border officers to examine goods being exported.
The proposed bill addresses Prime Minister Mark Carney's priorities and some of the long-standing complaints voiced by U.S. lawmakers, including President Donald Trump.
The bill had three main themes: securing the border, fighting organized crime and fentanyl and boosting the fight against financial crimes
